Our Story
Back in 2006, a handful of fluffy little chicks strutted into our lives and, well, let’s just say things escalated quickly. One minute we were rescuing a few animals, the next we had chickens, goats, geese, crows, squirrels… (yes, squirrels—don’t ask, they had personality). Somewhere between bottle-feeding goats and dodging goose attacks, we discovered a true obsession: chickens. If you asked any of my now adult grown children, all 4 of them can tell you the names of their chickens when they were growing up :)
Fast-forward to today, and you’ll find us — Josh & Shannon — knee-deep in feathers, laughter, and an egg rainbow so wild it makes Easter jealous. We’ve got more acreage now, which means more space for our feathered friends and more chances for Shannon to sneak “just one more coop” past Josh.
The Eggs-periment Never Ends
Shannon is not just a chicken tender (though she does take her egg-collecting very seriously). She’s also the resident mad scientist, blending her medical background with her poultry passion. That’s how Freshly Picked Chicks Lab hatched — offering poultry gender testing, chicken genotyping, and plenty of “what if we cross this with that?” moments. From exclusive hybrids to herbal blends, nothing is safe from her wild experiments.
Meanwhile, while Shannon is knee-deep in feathers and juggling endless chicken chores, Josh is the behind-the-scenes man. He keeps everything neatly in place, makes sure supplies are stocked, and quietly prevents chaos from turning into full-blown chicken pandemonium. (Every mad scientist needs a sidekick with organizational superpowers.)
The Flock Behind the Scenes
We’re NPIP Clean (#4147) which means we can legally ship chicks and hatching eggs across the U.S. Shannon is also an NPIP State Testing Agent for Oklahoma (#3-621) — so yes, she actually knows what she’s doing while she’s running around with test tubes and chicken feathers.
And because chicken math is more fun with friends, we built a subscriber community over on Facebook. It’s filled with some of the best people you’ll ever meet: they share ideas, test-hatch Shannon’s crazy new projects, get exclusive discounts, and help name the next ridiculous hybrid that hatches out of the incubator. (Think of it as “Shark Tank,” but with more feathers and fewer suits.)
So whether you’re here for the eggs, the chicks, or just the laughs — welcome to our colorful, slightly chaotic, but always egg-citing world.
