The Little Dalmatians of the Coop! 🖤🤍

These are hands down some of my favorite birds! With their striking black-and-white feather patterns, I lovingly call them my little Dalmatians of the chicken coop.

My Ermine Ameraucana breeding program is a work in progress, with a HUGE focus on genetics, beautiful blue egg color, and developing a strong silver-based Ermine line.

All of my breeding birds in this pen have been DNA tested and are:

Homozygous for the Blue Egg Gene (O/O) — two copies of the blue egg gene.
Negative for Recessive White — no hidden recessive white genetics in my breeding stock.

One of my biggest goals is improving the silver base in my Ermines. This isn't something that happens overnight! It takes years of selective breeding, but I'm already seeing approximately 40% of my hatches expressing silver base instead of gold base.

🐣 What Can You Hatch?

This is where the fun begins!

Because of how my breeding pens are set up, you can hatch:

Ermine — the gorgeous black-and-white patterned birds.
Black — solid black plumage.
Dominant White — predominantly white birds resulting from the dominant white genetics in this project.

You may also notice differences right at hatch. Some chicks have a more silver-based (whitish) appearance, while others have a gold-based (yellowish) appearance.

Important Genetics Note:

Dominant White and Recessive White are TWO different things!

My breeding stock has been DNA tested negative for recessive white, so you don't have to wonder whether a white chick from this pen is hiding recessive white genetics. The white birds produced in this breeding program are associated with Dominant White, not recessive white.

Specific chick colors and patterns cannot be guaranteed, and Ermine is still a developing color project.
